UAE (uterine artery embolization)
UAE has well established minimally invasive procedure which avoids the need for surgery and anesthesia. UAE involves endovascular blockage of the blood supply to the fibroids by injecting particles inserted through a pinhole incision in the groin artery. The fibroid reduces in size due to deprivation of blood supply. Patients are usually able to go home the next day after the procedure. The fibroids shrink gradually over six months and symptoms may continue to improve over this time.
